But those things don't matter.
Should Matt Kemp be trying to get a huge secondary lead from second in a one run game? NO. Horrible, childish mistake. Should Reed Johnson be jogging home? NEVER. Should Martin even be overrunning second with the all-important tying run scoring? Not at all. This is even more unforgivable since the play was happening right in front of him.
I was at the game last night. I had a post written about my feelings, but it was lost in an internet malfunction, so what you are getting is a 18 hour filtered Beasy coming at you. I didn't see either play last night because one dude in front of me had a huge head, blocking Fuentes, and the other stood up every play, blocking second base. I saw Carroll's ball bounce in and then a bunch of Angels fans cheering. I didn't look it up or watch it on TV, because it just didn't matter what new way we had found to lose a game. Then after reading a Triggs tweet, coupled with my brother's text, I felt I had to look it up. My opinion has changed little. The Dodgers lost that game, wasting an amazing Ely start (runs scored via error and GIDP), by not cashing in on multiple opportunities. The last sequence, which is broken down by the amazing people over at fangraphs, was only one of many. It's silly that Martin and Kemp are getting most of the blame, when Johnson and Ramirez (also jogging on Kemp's deep double) are not exactly sans guilt. The sweep is coming, Haeger's knuckler is probably already being smashed around the park, and though these sweeps aren't as bad since they come to teams out of division and league, it's not a good sign when you cannot beat anyone right now. I don't care if they're beating themselves, their play is simply, well, abysmal.
