Angels split against Spankees.

I know it's not original, but I love call them that. Well, it was a twist and turns, up and down two game series with the Yankees, and now that's it's all said and done, we await tonight's Texas/Tigers game, trailing by 5.5. Let's see how it all went down through the eyes of this suffering fan.

Angels 10 - 2 Yankees (Tues):

Sean O'Freaking Sullivan! He came out looking like the AAA player everyone thinks he is, and then sucked it up and pitched his butt off. After a two run first, Sully nailed 12 Yanks in a row en route to a very hot 6 IP of 2 hit/2 run ball with 4 Ks. It was a stellar game, in a game where he didn't even need to be that stellar. Silky O'Sullivan had plenty of offense backing him up. Coming back from a lengthy trip to the DL, Maicer Izturis went nuts, going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, including ripping a line drive home run over the short porch in right. So very nice to have him back. The game also saw Napoli and Godzilla going yard, with Mats finishing with 2 RBI and Napolini getting himself four. Every Angels starter (outside of Jeff Mathis, 0 for 4 with 3 Ks) got a hit, with Napoli and (believe it or not) Juan Rivera leading the charge with 3 a piece. By the way, how about Shields, Hat-cisco Rodriguez, and Bozo Bell going 3 shutout innings in relief? No one is talking about that, and it was pretty important stuff. It was such a solid match, and it gained us...nothing. Those damn Rangers crushed Detroit, and we were stuck at 5.

Angels 6 - 10 Yankees (Wed):

What is with the winning team nailing 10 runs in this series? It certainly didn't go quite as well today, as the Yanks jumped out to a 6-0 lead before before a Franny RBI single and Bobby Wilson two run bomb started the Angels comeback. Hideki Matsui sent another one into the seats, furthering his resurgence, to pull us within one in the 6th, but that is as close as we would get. Two bombs in the 7th sealed the deal for the Yankees, who pulled away hard to split the series, and send the Halos reeling to 5.5 back. J-Balls just didn't have it, allowing 6 runs in his 6 innings, for his first rough outing in a while. 11 hits and 2 walks coughed up against the team with the MLB's top record isn't going to get you a win. Scott Shieds being on the hook for allowing the Yanks to jack their way from 6-5 to 10-5 didn't help either. He was so promising in his inning yesterday, but it's one step forward and two steps back with this guy this year. I still stand by my comment from years ago that he's the Halo who most likely took 'roids earlier in his career (see: rubber arm in 2002ish). The offense stranded 10 runners on base with Howie being the worst offender going 1 for 5 with 2 Red Hats stranded. EA tried to set the table with 3 hits, but with HK and Abreu going 2 for 10, it just didn't make a lick of difference. But, we still managed to scored 10, and it was more our pitching that sank us in this one.

So, we'll either be 5 back or 6 back heading into our four game series with Texas. While a sweep wouldn't give us first place, it would certainly make Angel fans a lot more confident as we march on. And I say, why not call a sweep? Are we fans or are we pussies? Sorry for the language, but I'm ready to make a serious dent in the AL West with this 4 gamer. The series starts with a bang as Jered Weaver (9-5, 3.16) tries to take down Cliff Lee (8-4, 2.59).

Let's get this bitch started!
