A thrilling quarterfinal weekend has brought us to the World Cup post #12, and it's time for some bold predictions.
Germany v Argentina
This was the quarterfinal match of the weekend, and boy was it crazier than we all could have imagined. I picked Germany to win, and barely believed myself, but even I couldn't have expected what happened. The Germans busted Argentina for four goals! A 4-0 win for the Europeans, as they continue their mad dash through quality teams in this tournament. Thomas Muller came up large with a goal in the 3rd minute, and that completely set the tone. Basically, it was a supremely gifted and creative offensive side with little hope to defend against the side with three 4-goal games in the tournament so far. Miroslav Klose even gifted us with a front flip after he completed his double. Brilliant stuff. And, although I like him, it was fun to see Maradona crying after getting demolished.
Spain v Paraguay
David Villa took care of Paraguay, which wasn't a shocker. It had nothing of the excitement of the 7:00 am test, and I'm sure ABC was wishing they were scheduled the opposite way. Spain's goal came in the 83rd, and the clean sheet solidified the trip to the semifinals for a rematch of the Euro 2008 finals.
Predictions for the penultimate round of play:
Netherlands v Uruguay
As previously predicted, the Dutch are through to the finals, and I will forever go to my cousin Daniel for soccer knowledge.
Germany v Spain
Can the Germans get through England, Brazil, and Spain? Yes.
The Netherlands/U-R-Gay (Simpsons reference) game gets underway in 3 hours.
Enjoy.
