That's it for the November stats. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
So it was a battle of cousins on Wednesday night, as my UCSB Gauchos went toe to toe with my cousin Daniel's Loyola Marimount Lions. Much to my delight, the 'Chos brought their A-game, beating LMU 76-67.
None other than Stockton, Ca native James Nunnally brought the pain. The Nunn drilled a career high 29 points, including hitting 4 three pointers, going 11 of 14 from the field. Nunnally also had 6 boards and 4 assists, as he has been showing his skills early in the season (finally some first team All-Big West?). Seaside, Ca native Orlando Johnson (OJ) was the only other Gaucho in double digits, putting 11 in, while RSM native Jaime Serna scored 8. The bench also helped out with 20, in a game where SB held LMU to just 43% from the field.
The Gauchos were up by just a single point with 9:56 to go in the game. But Nunnally and the crew had plans to put it away, as James took the game over. He led an 18-0 charge where he scored 13 of the first 16 points in the run, while assisting on the other three by Jordan Weiner. LMU never recovered from that.
The 'Chos are now 3-3 in the early goings of the NCAA basketball season, and have their next test on the road against Santa Clara (4-3) on December 14. Keep in mind that while Nunnally may have controlled the most recent game, OJ has been the man with a plan over the first six games. Johnson is playing at a 22.3 PPG, 2.2 APG, and 5.8 RPG (the first two being team leading numbers, the third being #2). Hopefully we can pick it up even more as we get toward conference play.
We're getting plenty of rest, so let's beat those Broncos!
Olé.
