Pittsburgh (7-5) v. Kentucky (6-6)
Pitt favored by 4
There's only three more college football bowl games, and this is the worst of them. This game is seemingly nothing but a warm-up for NFL fans who cannot wait to see men smashing their bodies against one another.
The teams? Well, I think the word controversy sums it up. Pitt has had three head coaches in the last month. Kentucky's starting QB has been suspended for the game stemming from a public intoxication and disorderly conduct arrest.
The Pitt Panthers have been a disappointment. They began the year ranked number 15 in the nation and was picked by some to run away with the Big East. But some of us saw through that (there's also an interesting conversation in the comments section of that post between Andrew and I where it could be argued that I --SPOILER ALERT -- picked Oregon to win the national championship this year --END SPOILER ALERT).
The Wildcats played well (4-0) against out of conference nobodys, but struggled for victories in the SEC (2-6). Even though they have an even record, they were able to put up tons of points, even against some big time teams: 31 in an upset of South Carolina, 34 against Auburn (but is that really a surprise).
But they're playing without they're starting quarterback on a team that was in the top 25 in passing. Conversely, they're in the top 50 in rushing and have their previous year's QB to fall back on. And Pitt is playing in the midst of all this controversy. Ugh, this might be the hardest game to pick this bowl season.
The pick: Kentucky - This is really unlike me to pick an SEC team, especially one playing without their 3000 yard passer. I just feel like the off-field stuff will be too much to overcome.
The line: Points.
