Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: San Francisco, CA, USA, 1/9/11, 6pm

Nevada (12-1) v. Boston College (7-5)
Nevada favored by 7.5

The WAC Champions should draw someone better than the 6 or 7 from the ACC, am I wrong? Clearly the bowl underwriters do.

One of the most exciting/not talked about teams in the FBS this season is the Wolfpack. In fact, they've been nothing but gritty for years now. Ask Boise if they liked traveling to Reno in late November.

And they run the ball. The number 15 (with 3-loss Alabama breathing down their necks) team in the BCS rush for more yards per game than Oregon and Auburn (in fact, they trail only Georgia Tech and Air Force in YPG for the season). Their QB, Colin Kaepernick, has passed for 2800 yards and run for over 1100 - his third time in three seasons. He has 20 TDs rushing and throwing.

Oh, and they also have Vai Taua, a 1500 yard rusher who averages well over 6 yards a carry in his three years as a Nevada starter.

It's been a tale of two seasons for the Golden Eagles. After starting off 2-0 versus FCS opponents, they lost 5 straight games against quality opponents. They then turned things around and finished the season on a 5 game winning streak in conference, only once winning by more than a touchdown (and it was by ten at Wake, sorry J).

So which team of Catholics will show up? Or will it even matter?

The pick: Nevada - I'd like to think that this is a huge statement game for Nevada, establishing them as a premier team in the FBS, but even a Sunday night game after the NFL might not be enough, considering their opponent. And though that might be locker room material for BC, Nevada is just too senior heavy to sleep on this game. Plus, I'm not too sure that the Golden Eagles actually have an offense.

The line: I'm excited to watch this game. And even though many folks might turn this game off should a team go up by three touchdowns, I hope to be the beneficiary of some sweet, late runs. Hey J, any way we see Fajardo in this one?
